The recent Public Health England report published on 2 June, shows little/no support for medical professionals recruited from overseas in the UK and they share experiences of feeling isolated and vulnerable in their quest for personal and career development. A similar picture emerges from the EU & Canada.

The evidence review summarises testimony received by PHE’s Prof Kevin Fenton, the report’s author, from about 4,000 stakeholders, including BAME groups and academics.

“It is clear from discussions with stakeholders the pandemic exposed and exacerbated longstanding inequalities affecting BAME communities in the UK,” it said.

The fact that many BAME people occupy key worker roles, for example in the NHS and social care, means that they “may be more exposed to Covid-19 and therefore are more likely to be diagnosed,” it added.

From this research and other research and interviews from overseas medical professionals, the Future Perfect Health Team believes the creation of a unique and special peer social media platform  – available to all UK overseas medical health professionals – can help provide the necessary support for our medical keyworkers to combat those issues of social isolation and vulnerability that have been highlighted in recent research.

“We want to maintain a relationship with all of the candidates who have participated in our English Language and vocational training courses and ensure that they have a positive career experience whilst living and working in the UK,” says CEO Neil Barklem, adding, “It is also important for us to link directly with the professional services, Unions and HR professionals who can provide expert advice and guidance to our network. Recent events have shown that no one can be silent anymore in the face of unfavourable treatment or acts of discrimination. The FP Health social media network platform serves to affirm people’s rights to social equity and equality of opportunity at all times.”
